Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic, aged 20, has been substituted by Emre Can in Germany's Euro 2024 squad due to a bout of tonsillitis.
Pavlovic recently debuted for the national team on 3 June during a 0-0 draw with Ukraine and was initially selected by Julian Nagelsmann for the tournament roster. However, he missed Germany's recent 2-1 victory over Greece and has withdrawn from the squad as a result of his illness.
Emre Can, a former Liverpool midfielder aged 30, has been called up in Pavlovic's place. Nagelsmann stated, "We have decided to re-nominate Emre Can to fill the vacancy. We sought a player with extensive match experience who can handle the pressures of tournament play."
Can boasts 43 caps for Germany and was preferred over Leon Goretzka of Bayern Munich for the roster spot.
Germany, the tournament hosts, commence their campaign against Scotland on 14 June in Munich at 20:00 BST.
