James Maddison will not be part of England's 26-man squad for Euro 2024. The Tottenham midfielder was initially included in Gareth Southgate's provisional 33-man selection.
Maddison made an appearance in England's friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday, coming off the bench during the 3-0 victory at St James' Park. However, he is among the seven players to be cut from the squad before the final 26-man roster is announced on Saturday.
The 27-year-old has accumulated seven senior caps for England and was included in Southgate's squad for the 2022 World Cup, although he did not play in Qatar.
Maddison transferred to Tottenham in a £40m deal from Leicester last summer. Despite a promising start, his season was marred by injuries, leading to inconsistent performances.
Southgate still has to cut six more players from the squad that will travel to Germany for Euro 2024. The final squad announcement will follow England's last warm-up friendly against Iceland at Wembley on Friday night.
Meanwhile, Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw, who has been sidelined with a long-term injury, resumed training on Wednesday and remains a potential candidate for the final squad.
