Hungary's head coach, Marco Rossi, expressed disbelief as his team's 15-match unbeaten streak came to an end with a 2-1 defeat against the Republic of Ireland in a friendly match ahead of their Euro 2024 finals clash with Scotland.
The opening goal came in the 35th minute, with Adam Idah of Norwich City, on loan to Celtic, heading in a cross from Southampton's Will Smallbone.
Hungary equalized five minutes later through a deflected long-range shot from captain Dominik Szoboszlai, assisted by RB Leipzig's Willi Orban, and finished by Adam Lang of Omonia.
However, Tottenham Hotspur's Troy Parrott broke clear to score the winning goal in stoppage time, clinching victory for Ireland.
Rossi, despite Hungary's dominant performance, stated, "We were not satisfied even with the draw in minute 91. We had several chances to win this match. Of course, we made some mistakes, but I think Ireland had two chances and they scored both. Okay, we wanted to win, but every time if it's not possible to win, we have to accept the draw. Despite the fact that we were coming from 14 matches without defeat, we are not England or Germany. Like I have mentioned several times, we are in a process, we are growing up."
Hungary faced challenges with several players unavailable for the match in Dublin. Fehérvár's Attila Fiola is not fully participating in training sessions but is expected to play against Israel on Saturday. Krisztofer Horvath of Kecskeméti is also dealing with a minor injury. Bendegúz Bolla of Servette and Dániel Gazdag of Philadelphia Union joined the squad late due to club commitments.
