Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has hinted at a potential absence of England's Luke Shaw from Euro 2024, casting doubt on the left-back's participation following a season plagued by injuries.
Shaw, 28, has endured a challenging campaign, making only 15 appearances due to recurring fitness issues, with his last game dating back three months ago against Luton Town.
Initially expected to return in early May, Shaw's comeback has suffered setbacks, making his involvement in the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25 uncertain.
With England's provisional Euro 2024 squad announcement scheduled shortly after the FA Cup final, Shaw faces a race against time to demonstrate his fitness.
Despite efforts to recover from his latest setback, Ten Hag disclosed that Shaw encountered complications in his rehabilitation process.
Regarding Shaw and fellow teammate Harry Maguire, who has been sidelined with a muscle ailment, Ten Hag stated, "For England I can't say (if they are available), it's not up to me. But for the cup final, we're working on it and I think Harry Maguire has a fair chance that he will be available. We plan for him. Luke is more complicated. In this moment, let's say it's a less chance that he will make it but there is still a very small, reduced chance. He had the setback and now we have to find out how far he is."
England's preparations for Euro 2024 include friendly matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina on June 3 and Iceland on June 7, before kicking off their campaign against Serbia in Germany on June 16.
