Marseille have secured the signing of forward Mason Greenwood from Manchester United until 2029, in a deal valued at up to €31.6 million (£26.6 million).
The 22-year-old Greenwood, who emerged from United's academy, has not featured for the Premier League club since January 2022. Last season, he was loaned to Getafe.
In February 2023, serious charges against Greenwood, including attempted rape and assault, were dropped. This led to criticism from the Marseille mayor after the club's intention to sign Greenwood was publicly announced.
Greenwood made his senior debut for United in 2019 as a substitute against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. During his time with United, he scored 35 goals in 129 appearances and earned his only England cap in 2020.
In August 2023, United announced that Greenwood would depart the club by mutual agreement following a six-month internal investigation into his conduct. He joined La Liga side Getafe the following month, where he scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 36 appearances.
United, who extended their well-wishes to Greenwood on their website, have also included a significant sell-on clause in their agreement with Marseille.
Marseille will face Sunderland in a pre-season friendly on August 3 at Bradford City's Valley Parade, as the Stadium of Light is under renovation.
Born in Bradford, Greenwood could be making his first return to England since his arrest in January 2022 related to allegations concerning material published online.
