In a strategic move, Red Bull has acquired a minority stake in the English soccer club Leeds United. This acquisition marks the beginning of a multi-year partnership between Red Bull and Leeds United, with the energy drink company also securing the position of the team's shirt sponsor for the upcoming season.
The deal, announced on Thursday, underscores Red Bull's growing presence in the soccer world, adding Leeds United to its portfolio alongside ownership of Leipzig in Germany and a longstanding association with Salzburg in Austria.
Despite Leeds United's recent loss to Southampton in the Championship playoff final, the club's ambition to secure a return to the Premier League aligns well with Red Bull's vision. Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO of Red Bull corporate projects and investments, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, "The ambition to bring Leeds back to the Premier League and establish themselves in the best football league in the world fits very well with Red Bull."
The agreement not only brings in new commercial revenues for Leeds United but also includes additional capital investment as Red Bull takes on a minority ownership stake. This infusion of capital is expected to enhance the club's ability to compete both on and off the pitch as they strive for promotion in the upcoming season.
Despite the partnership, Leeds United reassured fans that the club's name and logo will remain unchanged. Notably, the club's ownership includes prominent figures from the United States, including major-winning golfers Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth.
The move signifies Red Bull's continued investment in soccer and its commitment to supporting clubs in their pursuit of success at the highest levels of the sport.
