Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou expressed concerns over the club's fragile foundations following their recent defeat by Manchester City, effectively ending their Champions League aspirations.
Spurs fell short against City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, losing 2-0 and dashing hopes of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League.
In the aftermath of the match, Postecoglou remarked, "The foundations are really fragile. The last 48 hours have shown me that. It's inside the club, outside the club. Outside, inside, everywhere. It's been an interesting exercise. It's just my observations, mate."
Leading up to the game, Postecoglou was puzzled by some Spurs fans' apparent satisfaction with a loss, believing it would hinder Arsenal's title chances.
Despite Spurs showing resilience during the match, with Erling Haaland scoring in the 51st minute, the atmosphere in the stadium was notably subdued. Postecoglou acknowledged the impact of the atmosphere on his players, stating, "Of course it does. It is what it is. I can't dictate what people do. They're allowed to express themselves any way they want. But yeah, when we've got late winners in games it's because the crowd's helped us."
Postecoglou's frustration with the situation was evident in his interactions with fans during the match, as captured on video. Additionally, footage emerged of two Spurs supporters mimicking Manchester City's Poznan celebration shortly after the opening goal.
When questioned about the fans' behavior, Postecoglou responded tersely, stating, "I'm not interested, mate. I just don't care. Maybe I'm out of step, but I just don't care, I just want to win. I want to be successful at this football club, it's why I was brought in. So what other people, how they want to feel, and what their priorities are, are of zero interest to me. I know what's important to build a winning team - that's what I need to concentrate on."
