Liverpool secured a vital 3-2 comeback victory over Southampton on Sunday, extending their Premier League lead to eight points over defending champions Manchester City. Mohamed Salah played a pivotal role, scoring twice in the second half to seal the win for the Reds.
Salah leveled the match at 2-2 in the 65th minute, finishing cleverly past Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. He then put Liverpool ahead with a penalty seven minutes later, following a handball by Southampton defender Flynn Downes. This victory marked Liverpool's 10th win in their first 12 league matches.
Southampton had briefly led the match after a spirited first-half performance. Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 20th minute after intercepting a poor clearance attempt by Downes. However, Southampton fought back, with Adam Armstrong converting a rebound off his own missed penalty in the 42nd minute. Mateus Fernandes then finished a well-executed counterattack to give the Saints a 2-1 lead.
Salah’s brace helped Liverpool maintain their unbeaten run and extend their advantage over second-place Manchester City, who they will face at Anfield next week. Should Liverpool win, they could increase their lead to 11 points.
Southampton, who remain in last place with just four points from 12 matches, are struggling in the league and continue to battle against relegation.
