Wataru Endo, Japan’s out-of-favor Liverpool midfielder, expressed his belief on Thursday that he still has a future at Anfield. Despite being linked with a potential move away from Liverpool over the summer, Endo has only made one appearance this season, coming on as a 90th-minute substitute in three Premier League games under new manager Arne Slot.
Endo recently scored the opening goal in Japan’s 7-0 victory over China in a World Cup qualifier held in Saitama. Following the match, he indicated that he is "not so worried" about his current situation at the club.
"When the international break is finished there is a run of games so I'll get more chances," Endo, 31, said. "You can't just use 11 players when you have a lot of games. I'm sure I'll get my turn."
Endo won over Liverpool fans after his arrival from German club Stuttgart last year. He played a key role in Liverpool's Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea, which marked Jurgen Klopp's final trophy with the club.
"My physical condition won't be a problem," Endo stated. "I've been training well and I'm not worried about it."
The Japan captain remains confident in his ability to maintain form for his country despite limited playing time at Liverpool. Japan’s next World Cup qualifier is against Bahrain away on Tuesday.
"At my age I have experience so getting a feel for games isn't a problem," Endo added. "I feel I can perform well in this round of World Cup qualifiers. The important thing is to train and prepare well."
