Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili, the 23-year-old goalkeeper from Valencia, in a deal potentially worth up to £29 million. The transfer includes a base fee of £25 million plus £4 million in add-ons.
Mamardashvili’s move to Liverpool is contingent upon securing a work permit and international clearance. He will continue to play for Valencia this season and will join Liverpool for the start of the 2025-26 campaign.
Currently, Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper is Brazil international Alisson Becker. New manager Arne Slot also has Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher available for this season.
Mamardashvili featured in Georgia's four matches at Euro 2024, where they were eliminated by Spain in the Round of 16. Since joining Valencia in 2021, he has made 102 appearances and has started both of their fixtures this season, which ended in losses to Barcelona and Celta Vigo.
Liverpool decided to secure Mamardashvili now due to increasing interest in him, which might have affected their ability to sign him in the next 12-24 months. Alisson has two years remaining on his current contract with an option for an additional year. He has expressed support for Mamardashvili's acquisition, recognizing the potential to enhance the club’s goalkeeping depth in the future.
