Manchester City have reached an agreement with Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal for the transfer of defender Joao Cancelo for £21.2 million. While personal terms are expected to be settled without issues, Cancelo has not yet committed to the move.
Should Cancelo agree to the transfer, he is anticipated to sign a three-year contract, marking the end of his five-year tenure at the Etihad Stadium.
City manager Pep Guardiola had recently indicated that Cancelo could potentially return to the team. However, the disagreements that led to Cancelo's loan spells with Bayern Munich and Barcelona over the past 18 months have been significant obstacles.
Cancelo has not featured in Manchester City's two Premier League games this season and missed the Community Shield victory against Manchester United due to a number of City players being unavailable after participating in the European Championship in Germany.
Initially, Cancelo was introduced by Guardiola as the team's first inverted full-back, but he lost his place just months after signing a new contract in 2022.
