Brighton & Hove Albion have secured the signing of Denmark midfielder Matt O'Riley from Celtic for a reported fee of £25 million ($33 million). The 23-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract with the Premier League club, pending international clearance.
O'Riley made over 100 appearances for Celtic since joining from Milton Keynes Dons in 2022, during which time he scored 27 goals and played a key role in the club's three Scottish Premiership titles. Last season, O'Riley contributed 19 goals and 18 assists, significantly aiding Celtic's title-winning campaign.
Before finalizing the deal with Brighton, Celtic had turned down several offers for O'Riley, including bids from Europa League holders Atalanta and Spanish club Atletico Madrid.
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler commented on the signing, stating: "He plays a very specialist position. He is very good at occupying and attacking the right space and likes making deep runs, knowing when to attack at the right time. He enjoys getting forward and attacking the opponent's penalty area, but he also has a good defensive instinct. That balance makes him special."
O'Riley's transfer is expected to be completed once all necessary formalities are cleared.
