Leicester City have signed Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew from Crystal Palace for an initial fee of £5 million. The 32-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract with the Foxes.
Ayew, who joined Palace on loan in 2018 before making a permanent move, has made 212 appearances for the club, scoring 23 goals. He appeared as a second-half substitute in Palace's recent 2-1 loss to Brentford.
The transfer fee for Ayew could rise to £8 million with add-ons. He joins Leicester alongside midfielder Oliver Skipp, who was signed from Tottenham earlier this week for £20 million.
Leicester's manager, Steve Cooper, has expressed a desire to strengthen the squad's attacking options. Ayew commented, “I'm very happy to be here and I'm proud. I want to thank the club as they fought hard to bring me here - it happened quickly and I'm so happy to be here.” He added, “As a player, when you hear that the manager wants you, it just makes you want to come and work under him and to try to improve. Even though I'm 32, as a player you always want to learn and improve. I'm here to work hard and help the team achieve their targets.”
Leicester City, who were promoted to the Premier League, drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur in their opening match of the season, with Jamie Vardy scoring the equaliser. Their next league fixture is against Fulham on Saturday at 15:00 BST.
