West Ham United have finalized the transfer of defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United for £15 million.
Wan-Bissaka, 26, has agreed to a seven-year contract with West Ham. The player originally moved from Crystal Palace to Manchester United in a £50 million deal in 2019. During his time at Manchester United, he made 190 appearances and scored two goals.
This transfer marks West Ham's eighth signing of the summer, joining new recruits Jean-Clair Todibo, Crysencio Summerville, Luis Guilherme, Niclas Fullkrug, Wes Foderingham, Max Kilman, and Guido Rodriguez.
Wan-Bissaka expressed his enthusiasm for joining West Ham, stating, "It was a no brainer for me to join West Ham - I'm excited and happy to be here. I can't wait to get on the pitch, get to know the players, and push on from there. I see a team that is in it together, that will push each other to win, and a group that has got each others' backs through thick and thin, so being part of that and having that insurance helps a lot when you are surrounded by a good squad." He also mentioned it was an "amazing feeling" to return to London, where he was born.
Wan-Bissaka was initially signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when he managed Manchester United in 2019 and was a regular starter until Solskjaer's departure in 2021. He lost his regular starting position following Erik ten Hag’s appointment in 2022 but still made 64 appearances under Ten Hag over the past two seasons.
The transfer of Wan-Bissaka to West Ham has facilitated Manchester United’s pursuit of Bayern Munich full-back Noussair Mazraoui, with United now expected to finalize the signing of the Morocco international.
West Ham will commence their 2024-25 Premier League season against Aston Villa on August 17, while Manchester United will face Fulham on August 16.
