Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O'Neil, along with his backroom team, has officially signed new four-year contracts. The 41-year-old held informal discussions about a contract extension at the end of last season, reflecting the club's desire to solidify his position.
Joining O'Neil in signing new deals are assistant head coach Tim Jenkins, first-team coaches Shaun Derry and Ian Burchnall, head of goalkeeping Neil Cutler, and first-team coach analyst Woody Dewar.
"I’m absolutely loving my time here," O'Neil stated. "My staff love it, my family love it, so it's felt a really special place for us over the past year and I'm looking forward to continuing the journey."
Wolves chairman Jeff Shi expressed optimism about the club's future, emphasizing the need for a strong team to foster growth and achieve better results on the pitch. "I think the club has a positive future, building a new cycle for growth, better results on the pitch and ambitions to realize," Shi said. He highlighted O'Neil's hard work and humility, calling him "maybe even the most important member" of the team.
Last season, Wolves finished 14th under O'Neil, who took over on August 9, just days before the start of the 2023-24 season. However, he will face challenges in the upcoming season, as key player Pedro Neto is on the verge of a £54 million transfer to Chelsea.
O'Neil acknowledged that he, Shi, and sporting director Matt Hobbs still have "some bits to do in the transfer window" to enhance the squad further. "I know we've done some good stuff and the ones who've arrived have really helped us, but we still need to do a bit of work on juggling a few things around to make us balanced," he noted.
