Liverpool is considering a transfer for Martin Zubimendi, the Real Sociedad midfielder, as the club looks to secure its first signing under new manager Arne Slot.
Zubimendi was part of the Spain squad that claimed victory in Euro 2024, coming on as a second-half substitute for Manchester City's Rodri in the final match, where Spain triumphed over England 2-1.
At 25 years old, Zubimendi has been with Sociedad since 2011 and has a release clause valued at 60 million euros (£51.5 million).
During the previous season, Zubimendi played a key role in helping Sociedad finish sixth in La Liga, scoring four goals in 31 league appearances. The club also advanced to the last 16 of the Champions League in the 2023-24 season before being eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain.
Should the transfer be finalized, Zubimendi will be the first player to join Liverpool under Slot, who succeeded Jurgen Klopp as manager of the club.
Zubimendi has previously shared his admiration for former Spain international Xabi Alonso, who played in the same holding midfield position. Alonso began his career at Sociedad before moving to Liverpool in 2004 and later managed Sociedad's B team before taking charge of Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.
