Southampton are nearing a £7 million deal for forward Ben Brereton Diaz, who is set to join from Spanish club Villarreal.
The 25-year-old is poised to end his brief tenure in Spain and move to St Mary's. Brereton Diaz transferred to Villarreal last summer from Blackburn after a five-year stint at Ewood Park. However, his time with the La Liga team was less than fruitful, as he failed to score in 20 appearances, with only six of those being starts.
In January, Brereton Diaz was loaned to Sheffield United, where he managed to net six goals in 14 Premier League matches. Despite his efforts, Sheffield United could not avoid relegation from the top flight.
Southampton, who secured their Premier League status by winning the Championship play-offs last season, have lost Che Adams to Torino on a free transfer. The club has been actively seeking a forward this summer.
Brereton Diaz featured for Chile in the Copa America last month, with La Roja finishing third in Group A behind Argentina and Canada.
In addition to Brereton Diaz, Southampton have agreed deals to sign Sao Paulo forward Juan and left-back Wellington. Both players will join St Mary's when their contracts with the Brazilian Serie A club expire in January 2025.
