Alvaro Morata has completed a transfer to AC Milan from Atletico Madrid, the club announced on Friday. The Spain striker joins Serie A shortly after Spain's Euro 2024 victory.
The 31-year-old has committed to a four-year contract with Milan, intended to fill the void left by Olivier Giroud, who recently moved to Los Angeles FC.
"Morata has signed with the Rossoneri until 30 June 2028, with an option to extend for an additional year," said Milan in an official statement.
Italian media report that Milan activated Morata's €13-million release clause, and the player will receive an annual salary of approximately €4.5 million.
Morata participated in every match of Spain's successful Euro 2024 campaign, scoring his sole goal in a 3-0 victory over Croatia at the start of the tournament in Germany. He has netted 36 goals in 80 international appearances for Spain.
This move marks Morata's return to Italy following two previous stints with Juventus, where he secured two league titles and three Italian Cups.
Morata's career also includes an FA Cup win with Chelsea and contributions to two Champions League victories with Real Madrid in 2014 and 2017.
Milan, who finished second in Serie A last season, trailing champions Inter Milan by 19 points, will commence the upcoming season under new coach Paulo Fonseca. Their first match is a home game against Torino on August 17.
