Como achieved their first Serie A victory in over two decades on Tuesday, surprising Atalanta with a 3-2 win in a match delayed by a significant downpour in Bergamo, rendering the pitch unplayable.
Under the management of Cesc Fabregas, Como rallied after going down to an 18th-minute volley from Davide Zappacosta. They leveled the score with a fine effort from Gabriel Strefezza right after halftime, before taking the lead in the 54th minute. An unfortunate deflection from Sead Kolasinac redirected Nico Paz's strike into his own net.
Alieu Fadera sealed a historic victory for Como against their fellow Lombardy rivals with a brilliant individual strike, much to the dismay of the home fans.
Following this win, Como, owned by the tobacco company Djarum, climbed out of the relegation zone to 15th place with five points. This places them just a point behind Europa League holders Atalanta, who are currently in 12th after a challenging start to the season.
Atalanta, managed by Gian Piero Gasperini, has lost three of their first five Serie A matches and were left frustrated after a 0-0 draw with Arsenal in the Champions League on Thursday.
Ademola Lookman converted a penalty in the ninth minute of stoppage time, but it was too late for the hosts to initiate a comeback.
