Dusan Vlahovic scored twice as Juventus secured a 3-0 win over Verona on Monday, continuing their perfect start to the Serie A season. This victory, following a 3-0 win over Como, leaves Juventus as the only team with a 100% record after two matches, placing them at the top of the Serie A table.
Juventus are aiming for their first Scudetto since the 2019-20 season. Thiago Motta, who replaced Massimiliano Allegri after his departure following the Italian Cup final, is guiding the team. Allegri’s sacking followed his controversial remarks after the cup win in May.
Last season, Juventus finished third in Serie A, their highest position in four years. Vlahovic opened the scoring against Verona just before the 30-minute mark. Nicolo Savona, making his full debut, scored Juventus' second goal before half-time with a header from Samuel Mbangula’s cross. Mbangula, a Belgian player, has now contributed one goal and two assists in his first two Serie A matches since being promoted from the youth team.
Vlahovic sealed the win with a penalty early in the second half. He commented on Motta’s impact, saying, “He is certainly working hard on our aggression and our attitude. We all agree that our attitude is the key to everything. If we have the right mentality, it all works better. We play for each other, but also there are tactical changes that we know about.”
Juventus will face a significant challenge when they host Roma on Sunday.
In other Serie A action, Como earned their first point since 2003 with a 1-1 draw at Cagliari, thanks to a second-half equalizer from former AC Milan forward Patrick Cutrone. Como coach Cesc Fabregas remarked, “I am happy, because this is a difficult place to play, but at the same time we need to improve and as soon as possible get used to the Serie A tempo.”
