Napoli secured their first victory under new head coach Antonio Conte with a 3-0 win over Bologna on Sunday, led by a standout performance from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Kvaratskhelia, who became a father earlier in the week, scored Napoli's second goal in the 75th minute at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, helping to seal the win after the team's defeat to Verona last weekend. The Georgian international's goal came after his initial strike was deflected, ensuring Napoli's three points.
However, Kvaratskhelia's most notable contribution came in stoppage time at the end of the first half. The 23-year-old delivered a precise pass over the Bologna defense to Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who scored Napoli's opening goal. Di Lorenzo's finish provided relief for Napoli and their fans after a challenging start to the season.
Reflecting on his performance, Kvaratskhelia told DAZN, "I think you saw it on the pitch, the energy, and I did everything for the team. This week was for me so important, I'm so happy that I also came here and won with the team. I'm so happy."
Napoli's captain, Di Lorenzo, had faced criticism following his performances at Euro 2024, where Italy was eliminated by Switzerland. His goal against Bologna marked a positive turn in his form as he played a crucial role in the team's success.
"These fans show me a lot of love and I try to pay that back every time I step out onto the pitch," said Di Lorenzo.
The win was further secured in added time when substitute Giovanni Simeone scored Napoli's third goal, finishing a low cross from new signing David Neres. This goal capped off a successful home debut for Conte, solidifying the team's position after their first two matches of the season.
