Juventus secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Como on Monday, marking Thiago Motta's Serie A debut with the Turin club.
In the first half, Samuel Mbangula, who was a surprising choice for the left flank, and Timothy Weah both scored for Juve. Andrea Cambiaso sealed the win with a powerful finish in stoppage time. Como, who were promoted and playing their first top-flight match in over 20 years, struggled against the superior Juventus side.
Motta praised his team’s performance, stating, "Como are a good team and we had the right attitude tonight, when we had the ball we did really well all throughout the match," according to DAZN.
Juventus could have extended their lead further at the Allianz Stadium, creating numerous opportunities against Como, who were outperformed throughout the match.
Dusan Vlahovic had a particularly frustrating game. He hit the woodwork twice and had a goal disallowed just after halftime due to Andrea Cambiaso's earlier offside position. Vlahovic expressed confusion over the decision.
Motta, who joined Juventus after leading Bologna to the Champions League, has introduced a more attractive style of play compared to his predecessor, Massimiliano Allegri. Despite this, Juventus remains a work in progress, with several of Allegri’s preferred players, including Federico Chiesa, sidelined to accommodate those better suited to Motta's tactics.
Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas and supported by tobacco company Djarum, will have a clearer idea of their chances of remaining in the Serie A after their upcoming fixtures against Cagliari and Udinese.
Fabregas remarked, "Today was a reality check. We need to be better," acknowledging the team’s struggle with ball retention and the need for improved individual performance.
