Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is currently in discussions with Italian club Fiorentina regarding a potential return to professional football. De Gea, 33, has been out of action since last season when his contract with United expired.
In recent months, he has shared training videos, including sessions at National League club Altrincham, located near his home in north-west England. His latest update, posted on June 25, featured the caption "ready to rock."
Despite ongoing speculation about his next destination, including rumors of a move to Major League Soccer in the United States, no official announcement has been made regarding his future club. Sources indicate that no agreement has yet been reached with Fiorentina.
During his 13-year tenure at Manchester United, De Gea made 545 appearances and contributed to the team's success, including winning the Premier League title in the 2012-13 season, along with two League Cups, one FA Cup, and the Europa League.
Fiorentina is owned by Rocco Commisso, a prominent businessman who moved to the United States as a child after being born in Italy. The club last secured a major trophy in 2001, when they won the Coppa Italia. They have reached the finals of the UEFA Conference League twice in recent years and will participate in the play-off round of the same competition this season.
