Kylian Mbappe clinched France's player of the year title on Monday during the UNFP (French players' union) Trophies gala in Paris, marking his fifth consecutive win. The 25-year-old Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward received the honor as he concludes his seven-season tenure with the club.
Throughout the season, Mbappe showcased remarkable prowess, tallying an impressive 44 goals across all competitions for PSG. Confirming his departure from the club as his contract nears expiration, Mbappe expressed gratitude for his time in Ligue 1, acknowledging it as a significant chapter in his career.
Reflecting on his departure, Mbappe stated, "It is a page that is turning, a chapter of my life that is going to close," emphasizing his attachment to the league where he has flourished.
In his final home game for PSG, Mbappe found the net, bringing his Ligue 1 goal count to 27 for the season, surpassing his peers by a notable margin. Despite PSG's unexpected 3-1 loss to Toulouse, Mbappe's individual performance remained stellar.
With two more Ligue 1 fixtures remaining for PSG, as well as the impending French Cup final against Lyon on May 25, Mbappe's contributions to the team's successes remain pivotal.
Mbappe's outstanding achievements earned him the coveted award, voted for by his fellow players and presented by Marie-Jose Perec, former French Olympic champion in the 200m and 400m events.
Joining Mbappe in the accolades, PSG's Warren Zaire-Emery was honored as the young player of the season, while Gianluigi Donnarumma secured the title of the best goalkeeper. Eric Roy of Brest was recognized as the coach of the year for guiding the club to historic European qualification.
