Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) declined to pay former striker Kylian Mbappe a disputed sum of 55 million euros ($60.6 million) on Thursday, despite a directive from the French league (LFP) earlier in the day.
The LFP, which oversees the top two tiers of football in France, had instructed PSG to make the payment, but the club announced they would pursue the matter through another legal avenue.
Mbappe, who claims PSG owes him 55 million euros in wages and bonuses, asserts that this amount was agreed to be waived in August 2023. However, PSG disputes this claim.
On Thursday, the LFP commission instructed PSG to make the payment within a week, prompting a response from the Qatari-backed club.
"Given the limits of the Commission's legal scope to make a full decision on this matter, the case must now be pursued before another court," PSG stated.
"PSG will look forward to presenting all the facts over the coming months and year."
Lawyers for both parties met early Wednesday after Mbappe, who transferred to Real Madrid this summer, had referred his case to the LFP's legal committee.
