Paris St-Germain has officially signed Benfica midfielder Joao Neves in a deal that begins at £50 million and could reach £60 million with performance-related add-ons.
The 19-year-old Portugal international, who was previously linked with a move to Manchester United, has committed to a five-year contract with the French champions.
Neves made his debut for the Benfica first team in January of last year and quickly established himself as a vital player. Over his tenure at the club, he made 75 appearances in all competitions and netted four goals.
Benfica confirmed the initial transfer fee of £50 million, with the potential for the total to increase based on future performance.
Neves arrives at PSG as the club navigates the aftermath of star forward Kylian Mbappe's recent transfer to Real Madrid.
"Joao is one of the most talented players in Portugal and internationally," stated PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. "He was so passionate to join Paris St-Germain and determined to fight for the jersey - which is what we expect of all our players."
To date, Neves has earned nine caps for Portugal, featuring in two matches during this summer's European Championship in Germany, where he helped the team reach the quarter-finals.
"I'm very proud to be joining Paris St-Germain, a very ambitious club," Neves commented. "I'm going to give my all to help my team-mates, to grow at this fantastic club and to win numerous titles."
