Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe is set to be sidelined for approximately three weeks due to a thigh injury, the club confirmed on Wednesday. The injury occurred during the 3-2 victory over Alaves on Tuesday, where he showed signs of discomfort before being substituted.
According to a statement from Real Madrid, "Following tests carried out today by Real Madrid's medical services on our player Kylian Mbappe, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg."
Mbappe had an impressive performance in the match against Alaves, scoring a goal and bringing his tally to five in seven league appearances this season. After the game, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti commented on Mbappe's condition, saying, "He's fine, he's fine, a little overloaded, he asked me for the change to avoid problems."
As Madrid prepares for a crucial derby against Atletico at the Metropolitano stadium on Sunday, they find themselves just one point behind league leaders Barcelona, who face Getafe on Wednesday. Real Madrid is currently on a 39-game unbeaten streak in La Liga, dating back to a defeat by Atletico last year.
In addition to missing the upcoming league match, Mbappe will not participate in the Champions League match against Lille next week and could also miss the Nations League matches against Israel and Belgium.
Since joining Real Madrid this summer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappe has been finding his form, scoring seven goals in nine appearances across all competitions, including a goal in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta in August and on his Champions League debut.
