Kylian Mbappe netted his first two goals in La Liga as Real Madrid secured a win against Real Betis.
The France international capitalized on Federico Valverde’s backheel to open the scoring, beating Rui Silva. He later converted a penalty after Silva fouled Vinicius Jr., sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
Mbappe had previously been goalless in his last three La Liga appearances, although he had scored on his debut for the club in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta.
The 25-year-old, who joined Real Madrid from Paris St-Germain this summer, remains PSG’s all-time top scorer with 256 goals. His first La Liga goal came from his 25th shot of the season, with the penalty marking his 26th attempt. This tally is the highest in Europe’s top five leagues.
Real Betis had early opportunities, with Abde Ezzalzouli heading wide from close range and Barcelona loanee Vitor Roque forcing a save with his first touch from the bench.
Madrid also had several chances, with Mbappe attempting seven shots before scoring, and Eder Militao and Valverde testing the Betis goalkeeper. Vinicius also hit the post with a deflected shot.
After four league games, Madrid remains unbeaten but is four points behind Barcelona. Real Betis has collected just one point from their opening three matches.
