Bayer Leverkusen, the reigning German champion, will commence their Bundesliga title defense with an away match against local rivals Borussia Moenchengladbach on August 23.
In accordance with tradition in Germany, the champion team launches the new league season with a Friday night fixture.
Gladbach notably held Bayer Leverkusen to a goalless draw in their last encounter in January, making them the only Bundesliga team to prevent Xabi Alonso's team from scoring last season. Leverkusen achieved the Bundesliga title without a single loss, marking a historic feat.
The league released its fixtures on Thursday, also scheduling Bayern Munich to start their league campaign at Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund, the Champions League runner-up, to face Eintracht Frankfurt. These matches are slated for August 24 or 25, with exact dates and times to be confirmed.
The season will kick off with the first round of the German Cup on August 16, followed by the Super Cup clash between Leverkusen and Stuttgart on the subsequent day.
