Bayern Munich are reportedly in advanced discussions with Burnley regarding the unexpected appointment of Vincent Kompany as their new head coach.
The Bundesliga club believes Kompany is keen on the move, and both clubs are working to finalize a compensation agreement.
Kompany, 38, is expected to bring his Burnley backroom staff to Munich, including former Wales international Craig Bellamy.
Bayern has been searching for a replacement for Thomas Tuchel, whose departure was confirmed last week after an initial announcement in February. Attempts to retain Tuchel were unsuccessful.
Potential candidates, including Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann, and Austria’s Ralf Rangnick, have all declined the position.
Kompany, who has managerial experience with Anderlecht and Burnley, has seen mixed success. Despite Burnley’s relegation, he has built a positive reputation. His ability to speak German, from his time at Hamburg, is seen as an asset.
In 2023, Kompany signed a five-year contract extension with Burnley but remained non-committal about his future following a recent defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Kompany, a former Manchester City player with four Premier League titles, became Burnley manager in June 2022. His appointment was his first managerial role in England after managing Anderlecht.
Burnley minority shareholder and former NFL player JJ Watt hinted at the potential move with a cryptic message on X: "People often ask if European football ownership helps fill the adrenaline void from playing... There are definitely days."
