Brighton have completed the signing of Germany Under-21 international Brajan Gruda from Bundesliga side Mainz for £25 million. Gruda, who is 20 years old, has committed to a four-year contract with Brighton.
Gruda made 28 appearances for Mainz last season, contributing significantly to the club's efforts to maintain their top-flight status. Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler expressed his enthusiasm about working with Gruda, stating, "I saw the big impact he made last season in the Bundesliga and he's a player I admire a lot."
Prior to Euro 2024, Gruda trained with Germany's senior team and was considered for a call-up but had to withdraw due to injury. He has been a part of Germany's youth teams from the age of 15 and has accumulated seven appearances for the under-21s.
Gruda had been linked with a move to Bayern Munich before finalizing his transfer to Brighton.
